Fuerteventura: Sandy heaven for beached Brits

Holidaymakers looking for sun, sea and sand should check out Fuerteventura and its 125 miles of sandy coastline.

Such long stretches of beach make the island an ideal setting for relaxing and enjoying the sunshine, with tourists from all over Europe and beyond looking to enjoy the perfect break from everyday life.

On the north of the island, Corralejo has golden sand dunes that offer the perfect spot to catch some sun and get a more picturesque view of the Atlantic Ocean, while in the south the long, flat beaches of Jandia stretch far into the distance. These make the perfect spot for larger family groups to come and enjoy some fun while the sun beats down.

And when the sun starts its retreat below the horizon, Fuerteventura offers plenty of evening entertainment to keep both kids and adults happy.

Bars and restaurants are plentiful around the island, with live music, karaoke, dancing and cabaret all part of the entertainment schedule in the island's tourist hotspots.

And with its long coastline, it's unsurprising that the staple diet of Fuerteventura's habitants is fish. Served with speciality sauces and locally produced vegetables, many of the dishes are centuries old and give tourists the opportunity to experience some traditional Fuerteventura food. Obviously there are plenty of other restaurants on the island offering food from a variety of cultures, including traditional British fare and pub grub.
