Mahon

Take one of our cheap flights to Mahon which is the capital and chief town of Minorca island, Balearics Spain, in the West Mediterranean Sea. Mahon is a port with an excellent deep water natural harbour.

The green and gently rolling island of Menorca, sometimes spelt Minorca, has a landscape that varies from sandy beaches to grassy meadows with stone walls that evoke images of Britain. Much of the terrain is dotted with rock mounds, T-shaped monoliths, and tombs that date back several thousand years.

Mahon or Maó is the island's capital and main port. It lies three miles from the sea, at the end of a natural deepwater harbour that Britain fortified and used as a military base for much of the 18th Century.

Please Note: Local names can vary, depending on whether you're using Castilian Spanish or Catalá and its local dialects. "Menorca," for example, is "Minorca" in Catalan, while "Mahon" (the capital's traditional Spanish spelling) is giving away to "Maó" in current guidebooks and maps.
